The dated spine of the world — from the dwarven dawn to the burning present of An 827.

Vaelis counts its years from the first lasting kingdom (An 0) — today is ≈ An 827. Before the count lies myth. This is the dated spine Xarnak narrates against.

The Ancient Ages

  1. Before the count
    Mithradin & Anubel — Mithradin, the first god — of oaths; Anubel, said to be the first to walk Ostrevan.
  2. ~ -2000
    The dwarven dominion — Karn-Vorr and Yrmfell, the Throne of Bone, rule the young world.
  3. ~ -1800
    The elven landing — The elves come; the Cité de Lune is raised.
  4. ~ -1500
    The elf–dwarf war — Stone and moonlight break upon one another.
  5. ~ -1300
    The Peace of stone & tide — The King-under-the-Mountain and the Lady of the Moon swear the first oath — a brief age of concord, before the elves ebb south to Luthael and the Cité de Lune goes dark.

    The waning — The dwarven age declines, the elves are gone — and the orcs take Yrmfell.

The Age of Men

  1. ~ -1250
    Men make landfall — Humans arrive from the east at the Récifs du Silence. Their origin: a mystery they will not tell.

    Oramyr — The first human empire, built on magic alone; its mage-kings — the Diadèmes — turn monstrous, and it devours itself, seeding ruins across the land.

    The dark-age kingdoms — Small realms stir in the long night — Al-Mahzarhân, then Silooth (~-150).

    The first lasting kingdom — The year from which the world is counted.
  5. ~ 80
    The Empire of Orvane — The second empire rises, sworn to Orvane the Golden Sheaf.

    The Golden Age — Orvane at its height; the dwarven pact is sworn (257).
  7. ~ 295 – 320
    The Long Twilight & Fall — Orvane declines, then falls — and its god dies: the first god-death known, whence the shattered pantheon.

    The Tide League — The merchant port-cities bind the seas.

    The Grey Plague — A pale death crosses the land.

    The first Défait → the Conclaves — Catastrophe answered by the mage-cities of Sarn.
